Dr. Smith was born and raised outside Chicago, and graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelors degree in biology in 1973 and a masters degree in teaching in 1974. After teaching high school science for two years, he entered Loyola University School of Dentistry where he graduated magna cum laude in 1979. Upon completion of his internship and residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Connecticut in 1982, he entered the private practice of oral & maxillofacial surgery. In 1984, he became a diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. While maintaining his private practice, he served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Oral Surgery at the University of Connecticut.
In 1990, Dr. Drew G. Smith and his family moved to North Conway, NH, where he founded the White Mountain Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, PC. At that time, he joined the active medical staff of The Memorial Hospital where he has served as a member and President of its Board of Trustees. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the NH Oral Surgery and Dental Societies, and the North Country Dental Society; and is a fellow of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Smith is also a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
When not in the office, one can most often find Dr. Drew G. Smith and his wife Betsy hiking or skiing in the local forests or mountains or supporting their two sons activities in the local Boy Scout Troop and the Kennett High School Sports Boosters Club. Gardening, woodworking, fishing and playing tennis take most of his remaining free time. Feel free to offer him tips on growing a prize winning pumpkin for the Fryeburg Fair or improvements on his tennis backhand. As a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears, please dont ask him about either of those teams if you need to be anywhere soon!
