|   |  Pre-Operative Instructions Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation Appointments - You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for six (6) hours prior to the appointment.
- No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home.
- The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following IV anesthesia.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with sleeves which can be rolled up past the elbow, and low-heeled shoes.
- Contact lenses, dangling facial jewelry, tongue bolt, nasal and eyebrow rings or studs should be left at home. If you wear dentures, they will be removed at the time of surgery.
- Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, eye mascara or nail polish on the day of surgery.
- You should brush your teeth prior to coming for your procedure. You can rinse out your mouth; just try to minimize swallowing excess water so your stomach remains basically empty.
- If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office as your surgery may have to be rescheduled.
- If you take routine oral medications, please check your pre op instruction sheet (see instruction #9) or check with our office prior to your surgical date for instructions.
- If necessary, you should take your antibiotic premedication 60 minutes before your appointment with a small sip of water to swallow the pills.
