Pre-Operative Instructions

Before Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen (laughing gas) with local anesthesia appointments

• You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for six (6) hours prior to the appointment.
• The effects of Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) wear off within minutes of turning off the gas. You could drive home after your procedure, but if you have a person to drive you home afterwards that would be nice.
• Contact lenses, dangling facial jewelry, tongue bolt, nasal and eyebrow rings or studs should be left at home. If you wear dentures, they will be removed at the time of surgery.
• Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, eye mascara or nail polish on the day of surgery.
• You should brush your teeth prior to coming for your procedure. You can rinse out your mouth; just try to minimize swallowing excess water so your stomach remains basically empty.
• If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office as your appointment may have to be rescheduled.
• If you take routine oral medications, please check your pre op instruction sheet (see instruction #9) or check with our office prior to your surgical date for instructions.
• If necessary, you should take your antibiotic premedication 60 minutes before your appointment with a small sip of water to swallow the pills.
